Bassett Healthcare Hiring for Nursing Unit Clerk Job at Delhi, NY Full Time

Responsibilities:

• As a Nursing Unit Clerk, you will prepare medical records for new admissions and discharged patients.
• Tear down discharge charts and send to medical records.
• The Nursing Unit Clerk transcribes physician orders during down time.
• Copy and obtain required forms for transfers.
• As a Nursing Unit Clerk, you will log all patients on the appropriate forms upon admission, transfer, discharge, or expiration.
• Communicates appropriately and clearly to resource nurse, co-workers, and practitioners.
• The Nursing Unit Clerk notifies other departments, as appropriate, to carry out practitioner orders.
• Schedules out of hospital appointments (scans, tests, etc.).
• Orders supplies and printed material.
• Fill-out appropriate forms.
• Retrieves all lab results and brings the results to the attention of the resource nurse.
• Run telemetry strips and have Resource Nurse review them.
• Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
• Treats patients and families with respect and dignity.
• Interacts professionally with patient/family.
• Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
• Retrieve medical records/EKGs upon request, per medical record guidelines.
• Documentation meets current standards and policies.
• Answers telephone/intercom in a policy manner and communicates information to the appropriate personnel/family.
• Files forms in appropriate manner per hospital policies.
• Participates in in-services/educational requirements.
• Reports to work on time as scheduled, completes work within designated time.
• Wears identification while on duty.
• Attends staff meetings on a regular basis.
• As a preceptor, assists and supports a new or transferred employee through a planned orientation to a specific clinical area Ensures confidentiality of patient’s records.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Current BLS
• Ability to read and communicate effectively in English
• Basic computer knowledge
• Knowledge of medical terminology encouraged
