The Inventory and Import Accountant will support all aspects of Inventory and Import Accounting. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the preparation of journal entries, financial statements, variance commentary, account reconciliations, and budget/forecast plans. This position will be responsible for inventory processes related to COGS components and margin which include first costs, duty, freight, buying commissions, broker fees, transloading, vendor cost adjustments, and intercompany billing. There will be direct interaction with Global Sourcing, Exclusive Brand partners, IT Systems Architects, Vendor and Customs Compliance teams, Payables and Transportation. Additionally, this position will own the annual CTPAT (Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism) Audit, BEA (U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis) filings, Customs and Border Patrol inquiries, and SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley) certifications. The successful candidate will safeguard controls over the inventory cycle encompassing Warehouse and Inventory Management, Point of Sale, Financial and Product Life Cycle systems. Project implementation, process improvement and issues management will be critical to this role.

• Perform monthly close activities including preparation and review of journal entries, balance sheet, income statement, variance analyses and other KPI reports
• Monitor and reconcile inventory related transactions and accounts between the general ledger and multiple sub-systems including inventory management, stock ledger and point of sale systems
• Prepare, review and analyze reports related to average unit retail, cumulative markup, cost per unit, inventory levels, inventory aging, out of stock, markdowns, returns and margin
• Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly inventory valuation, shrink, margin analyses and other significant quarterly adjustments related gross margin
• Ensure timely submission, accuracy and validity of inventory, gross margin, ASC606 reserves and other schedules to management. This includes monthly and quarterly forecasts, and budgets.
• Continually assess internal controls, including risk assessments and reviews of risk areas related to imports and inventory
• Complete CTPAT audit, tariff reconciliations, BEA filings and first sale receivable tracking
• Prepare audit schedules and conduct testing on a quarterly basis related to relevant SOX controls
• Document and maintain inventory related sub-processes and standard operating procedures
• Coordinate with IT department regarding system maintenance, issues, and project implementation related to purchasing, imports, accounts payable, accounts receivable, receiving, shipping, and other
• Analyze cost accounting data and assist with cycle count/physical inventories
• Identification and implementation of efficiencies and accounting technologies that expedite, simplify, and increase the value of our accounting close and reporting

Minimum Education & Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
• 5+ years of related work experience

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in MS Excel, MS Access and Sql Developer (or other database tools)
• ERP / Inventory Management required, strong preference for Oracle RMS
• Hyperion (Essbase), Lawson experience required
• Ability to research, compile, analyze and interpret complex data
• Ability to think critically and make recommendations
• Experience in the retail/e-commerce industry (preferred)
• Strong analytical, communication and collaboration skills
• Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Cost Accounting Standards, ASC606 Revenue Recognition Standard, and Importing
