DESCRIPTION

Part of the Direct Distributions Program, the Community Marketplace and Mobile Market programs are key food distribution programs providing food where it’s needed most. The Community Marketplace is a free, farmers’ market style event held on Saturdays and the Mobile Market Program is a pop-up free food distribution in communities with high numbers of food insecure families. These markets are primarily open-air market style distributions and typically serve between 200-300 households per distribution. This position will manage the two Saturday Community Marketplaces in Northern Virginia and the Mobile Market programs in Northern Virginia- working closely with the other Coordinator on delivering program excellence and tracking grant deliverables.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Program Administration (70%)

• Responsible for ensuring that the two Saturday monthly Community Marketplace distributions in Reston and Arlington, VA display a high level of consistency in program excellence for community members.

• Performs program oversite to ensure quality and consistency for Mobile Markets. Activities include providing training on program operations and safe food handling best practices, ensuring completion of reporting requirements, monitoring sites to provide guidance and support, and auditing sites and reporting findings when issues arise.

• Completes food orders for Community Marketplaces and Mobile Markets using the Capital Area Food Bank inventory system.

• Works with the Operations team to adjust delivery and site distribution schedule and communicates program logistic needs.

• Recruits and manages volunteers to support the Community Marketplace events.

• Identifies additional community resources and cooking demos to enhance the Community Marketplace experience and Mobile Markets as needed.

• Facilitates the improvement of the program operational model.

• Conducts both internal and external presentations to groups on the Community Marketplace and Mobile Market programs.

• Conducts trainings to site coordinators as needed.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Grants Management (30%)

• Responsible for tracking food costs and people served for all Mobile Market and Community Marketplace grants.

• Design and manage system to manage grants including monthly data collection, required reporting to funders, and communication to sites regarding information needed.

• Oversee program adjustments to meet funder needs.

• Work collaboratively to gather and maintain tracking systems across programs and regions.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree with 2-5 years of program implementation and grants tracking experience preferred

• Onsite – Ability to be onsite at two Saturday Community Marketplace events in Northern Virginia per month to manage all aspects of the market and supervise volunteers.

• Driven – Attention to detail and solid communication skills. Demonstrates the ability to plan, organize and prioritize multiple assignments. Ability to work with limited supervision and make sound independent decisions. Strong time management, analytical, communication and interpersonal skills.

• Professionalism – Ability to handle access to sensitive information with confidentiality, impartiality, and neutrality.

• Interpersonal – Ability to establish effective working relationships with users and peers and to develop successful plans of action with minimal direct supervision.

• Communication – Communicates effectively and professionally in dealing with agency, vendor and funder representatives as well as staff at all levels of the organization.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Physical activities involve sitting for 75% of the workday, leading distributions, and attending site visits

• Occasionally lifts up to 20 pounds.

• Ability to travel to sites, as needed, throughout the metropolitan area (personal vehicle preferred).
