Senior Software Engineer
Location: Durham, NC
Cell Microsystems, Inc, is a developer and manufacturer of innovative products for single cell workflows. The Company’s lead products, the CellRaft AIR® System and CytoSort® consumables, enable multiple discovery applications across a range of single cell methodologies, including CRISPR, ‘track and trace’ clonal propagation, genomics, stem cells, and organoids. First launched in 2018, the Company’s products have been purchased by leading academic, government, and pharma research organizations in the U.S. and Europe.
This person will be a key player in the development and application of technology and products that will have a major impact on the CRISPR gene editing, single cell genomics, cell line development, cellular imaging, cell sorting, and flow cytometry fields and will contribute to the achievement of critical milestones in software development, validation and systems integration for all automated platforms.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Software Products Design and Development
The Senior Software Engineer will collaborate in the areas of product design, development, installation, quality assurance and quality control, troubleshooting and integration of software developed for automated platforms. Programming tasks will include creation of graphical user interfaces using standard frameworks such as WPF and WinForms, development and testing of image processing algorithms using OpenCV with the C# Emgu wrapper, SQLite database handling, distributed programming, and machine control including image capture using vendor SDKs.
- Contribute to the design, implementation, and validation testing for software products installed on automated platforms
- Contribute to integration and installation of software products
- Draft and optimize protocols for software validation
- Build and release software for engineering testing
- Assist in quality assurance and quality control of software products
- Ability to participate in the software development process
Support for Customer and Partner Relations
The Senior Software Engineer supports the Company’s relations with customers and partners.
- Direct communication with internal support team regarding performance and troubleshooting of software products and related components
- Assist in the creation of technical and scientific internal and external documentation
Research and Development of Software Products and Systems Integration
The Senior Software Engineer will collaborate in the research and development regarding existing and new software products and systems integration.
- Contribute to the design, research, and development of both existing and new software products and integrated computational and imaging hardware
- Collaborate with other team members in the preparation and implementation of grants for research and development funding opportunities
Must haves:
- B.S./M.S. in computer science or computer engineering or related scientific field
- Minimum of 7 years of programming experience required in the .Net environment using Visual Studio with C#, C/C++, or similar for Windows desktop applications using WPF or WinForms, WCF or equivalent frameworks
- Strong expertise with the best practices for the software development life cycle (SDLC) and related tools
- Desire to continuously improve the software development process
- Experienced in distributed (client / server communication) software development
- Excellent knowledge with object-oriented techniques
- Experience with Git and issue tracking software
- Ability to quickly understand and contribute to existing applications
- Ability to design reliable software architectures for new problem domains
- Strong mathematical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to diagnose and correct software failures quickly
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Ability to lift 25 pounds
- Some travel required
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
Additional desirable areas of expertise:
- Proficiency with relational database design and implementation including transactions
- Ability to design and implement high performance software
- Ability to mentor staff software engineers with software development best practices
- Experience with client server architectures including cloud development
- Image processing experience with OpenCV, ImageJ, MATLAB, and/or other similar image processing packages
- Demonstrated technical writing skills
