Masters or doctoral degree.
Five years or more of related experience (university advancement, higher education administration, nonprofit administration, industry, or equivalent).
Three years of experience in a corporate or foundation relations program at a college or university.
General understanding of the structure of higher education and familiarity with a college or university environment.
Awareness of fundraising strategies in higher education.
Proven track record of soliciting and closing six and seven figure gifts and grants from corporations and/or foundations.
Experience working with a donor database and with major private funding sources (foundations, corporations, philanthropic, etc.).
Grant writing experience.
Ability to review and revise/enhance grant applications in collaboration with faculty authors, deans, the provost, and the president prior to submission.
Ability to write briefings for university leaders and internal and external correspondence.
Experience collaborating with a university sponsored research office to secure corporate and foundation support.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Coordinates the work of the corporations and foundations relations efforts, with attention to fundraising goals, research, grant writing, moves management, and qualification, solicitation, and stewardship visits.
Maintains a prospect pool consisting of corporations and foundations able to make major gifts of $100,000 or more.
Mentors and coaches other development officers who have corporate or foundation relations prospects in their portfolios or who are assisting deans interested in approaching corporations and foundations.
Interfaces with the universitys Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) to maximize research revenue from corporate and foundation prospects.
Works to build teams across departments/colleges at CMU for larger grant proposals.
Works to build multi-institutional teams in collaboration with partner universities and nonprofits for even larger grant applications.
Works with department heads, deans, and the provost, to identify faculty who may be competitive for nationally advertised corporate or foundation RFPs.
Works collaboratively with the Office of Career Development regarding corporate recruitment of talent and strategies for corporate engagement.
Provides staff support for the Business Development Committee of the Advancement Board, including coordinating meetings, preparing meetings with the committee chair, and assisting the chair in running meetings. Travels to corporate and foundation meetings across the state and the country, alone and with faculty, deans, and the provost, as needed; attends such meetings virtually as needed.
Staffs corporate and foundation meetings on campus.
Writes grant proposals; edits the proposals of other fundraisers and faculty.
Creates briefing materials for university leaders with corporate and foundation meetings; edit the briefings of others as needed.
Creates correspondence, thank you notes, and stewardship materials for corporations and foundations.
