The Role of HR Generalist

The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for the day-to-day human resources support for Chalmers Insurance Group across at its 8 business locations and approximately 100 co-workers. This role will report to the Human Resources Manager (HRM) and work closely with the Controller during the bi-weekly payroll process.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for recruitment efforts, new hire orientation and onboarding, payroll and benefits, company policy and procedure adherence. In addition, you will build strong relationships with our company’s managers/supervisors in order to help them with their human resource needs.

Responsibilities

• Manage the full cycle of recruitment efforts to include writing job descriptions and job postings, posting jobs on job boards and company website, screening candidates, presenting candidates to the hiring manager, assisting with coordination and facilitation of interviews, assisting with offer process, background checks, and onboarding through the 90-day check-in.
• Prepare bi-weekly payroll through administrative support to include initiating the payroll batch, making all changes and presenting to HRM/Controller for review and final approval.
• Assist with benefits plans, including enrollments, changes and terminations. Process required documents through payroll and insurance providers to ensure accurate record-keeping and proper deductions.
• Develop and lead the new employee onboarding program and recommend revisions to the program as necessary.
• Perform internal client service functions by answering co-worker requests and questions.
• Responsible for the administration of company policies and procedures and keeping the employee handbook updated.
• Assist HRM with organizational training and development efforts.

Who You Are

• A passionate HR leader with at least 5-7 years of HR experience; HRCI or SHRM certification preferred.
• You hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Business, Human Resources, or related area.
• Highly organized, energetic, and motivated to support our co-workers.
• Have problem solving and creative skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions that are accurate and timely.
• Have a high level of integrity and dependability.
• Exhibit a positive, growth mindset and an openness for coaching and development within the role.
• Someone who has strong interpersonal communication skills; both orally and in writing.
• Proficient with Microsoft Word/Excel/Outlook.
• Have experience with the payroll function.

Our Ways of Working

We have adopted a hybrid, flexible working schedule. Most of our co-workers enjoy three days from the office and two days from their home offices after a 90-day onboarding period. This position would be eligible for a hybrid schedule. We have eight locations in Maine and New Hampshire and this position is based in our Bridgton, ME office. Some travel to others offices may be required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.00 – $35.00 per hour
