• Manages the work activities of the Operating Room to include the Sr. Scheduling Clerk. Interview, hires, orients and trains staff. Evaluates performance and provides feedback. Makes personnel action recommendations (e.g. promotions, transfers, disciplinary, discharge).
• Develops and maintains scheduling guidelines and policy/procedures for the scheduling office. Manages and ensures appropriate staff levels to maximize the efficiency of the scheduling office and to monitor the use of overtime hours. Prepares absenteeism, tardiness, and disciplinary reports.
• Collaborates with the surgical staff, anesthesia and the operating room personnel to coordinate the future OR schedule. Reviews the future OR schedule, readjusts, cancels and moves surgical cases to facilitate efficiency of the OR schedule.
• Collects and evaluates patient health history information to assign appropriate PST. May complete patient phone interviews.
• Manages and coordinates Pre-surgical Testing block time scheduling.
• Works closely with physicians, office staff and other department employees related to the operating room. Functions as a resource and role model for the scheduling office and Operating Room personnel.
• Uses communication skills, appropriate judgment and problem solving to ensure the efficient operations of surgical scheduling functions.
• Coordinates the acquisition of equipment for specialty procedures as necessary. Updates special tools and new equipment as required.
• Informs physicians, office staff and nursing home staff regarding Akron General scheduling processes and procedures.
• Obtains all pert inent information for procedures.
• Interacts with the Business Manager/Systems Administrator to accommodate computer changes/information.
• Serves as a customer advocate ensuring physician/patient satisfaction and concurs with the Perioperative Manager, Surgical Services.
• Functions as the Assistant Team Manager, OR as required.
• Maintains proper balance between clinical and administrative duties. Assists with emergency situations when necessary providing nursing care in accordance with standards of practice.
• Participates in the development and implantation of short and long-range goals and objectives for the scheduling office.
• Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirement. Maintains applicable certification/licensure. Maintains current Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Follows hospital and department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.

Education:

• Graduate from an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred.

Certifications:

• Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio. Maintains current Basic Life Support (BLS).

Complexity of Work:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software (Access, Excel and Word). Knowledge of Surgical Services scheduling systems and other related health information systems. Strong keyboarding skills with the ability to perform entries with speed and accuracy. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work on multiple tasks/projects and meets deadlines.

Work Experience:

• Two years experience in the Operating Room. Previous supervisory experience preferred.
