Position Summary

The newest social club experience, Common House, is growing in locations and staff. Known for cultivating community through inspirational design, dynamic programming, and fine dining, our client strives to be an employer of choice for a hospitality-enthusiast and start-up culture thriver. As such, the Director of Operations will serve as the point-person with full responsibility of the business for Common House Charlottesville (CH1) and Common House Richmond (CH2).

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Build and oversee growth and performance of CH1 and CH2 Team

• Work in partnership with Common House function leads to interview, hire, onboard, and manage new full-time salaried hires

• Provide coaching, mentoring, and direct feedback to CH1/CH2-based team-members (who may also report to/work closely CH OpCo Directors (function leads)

• Oversee growth of both CH1 and CH2 Membership Bases

• Work in partnership with Director of Membership from each house to meet and exceed membership goals (increasing new memberships, managing/mitigating attrition, monitoring and increasing member utilization)

• Oversee growth of CH1 and CH2 Private Event Business

• Work in partnership with the Director of Events from each house to ensure we’re on pace to meet revenue projections

• Oversee the broader teams to ensure and maintain the Member and guest experience

• Work with Programming Managers, Concierge Managers, General Managers, Chefs de Cuisine, etc. to hit their department goals, increase member retention, adjust operations based on feedback, etc.

• Partner with Club Managers to ensure all day-to-day operational needs are met and resources are provided, including ensuring that maintenance and facilities needs are addressed, managed, and rectified in a timely manner.

• Drive the CH Charlottesville and CH Richmond Businesses

• Work with CFO and COO to effectively plan and execute revenue goals and manage labor and other unit-level budgets, with full unit-level P&L responsibility

• Oversee and support Membership, Events, Programming, FOH, etc. reporting back to broader CH Leadership

• Conduct weekly team meetings to review event sales, membership growth, club and community initiatives, restaurant costs, and all other happenings

• Attend weekly/bi-weekly meetings with ownership groups/investors to speak to the ongoing activity and updates of the clubs.

• Check in regularly with the CH Leadership team, reporting on KPIs, elevating any concerns or obstacles, and advocating for necessary resources.

• Set and enforce expectations for brand standards and company policies through leading by example and delivering regular, direct feedback to all CH1/CH2 team-members.

• Work with HQ to roll out systems, policies, procedures, standards; executing the vision of Common House while building team morale and culture

To be successful in this role, you must be:

• People Obsessed– This role centers around Common House employees. You will be responsible for leading dynamic teams to achieve Common House goals and celebrating the wins (big or small).

• An Experienced Practitioner– A bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience is required. We are seeking someone with a minimum of 5 years’ demonstrated experience (and evident interest) in start-up or small business operations management- including revenue management, talent management and culture creation.

• A Natural Influencer– You will be interacting with everyone throughout the Company to ensure all needs are met and addressed. You will be working closely with the COO to develop and promote a teamwork culture and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other departments.

• Bonus points for operations experience in the hospitality or events industry.

To be successful at Common House, you must be:

• A Start-Up’er – Common House is a start-up and an innovator in the social club space. Likewise, we need our Director of Operations to embody the same love of start-up chaos, with an ability to jump in and begin assisting as soon as they start. You should have experience operating both as a team and under developing, autonomous direction.

• Entrepreneurial — If you’ve ever felt the satisfaction of building a team, a department or a practice from the ground-up, you know it takes a certain combination of grit, skill and enthusiasm. Additionally, this role will require a candidate who practices independent judgment and discretion, as many duties performed are of a critical & confidential nature.

• Tech savvy – We use a variety of platforms and software, so the ability to navigate and integrate technology will be an important aspect of this role. Additionally, we’ll take your industry tech recommendations to heart, so come prepared to tell us what works and what doesn’t. Must be proficient in Microsoft, Google Suite and other Operations-specific tools.

• Nimble & Focused – No day is ever the same at Common House, which means no day in this role will be the same either. Your ability to keep the team on track through the chaos of club grand openings, strategic planning, and running our daily operations will be critical.

This position can be based in either Charlottesville or Richmond but will require frequent travel to both.
