Transportation Route Planner Position Summary:

Primary responsibility for delivering consistent, predictable service by building efficient, cost-effective routes for assigned branches/markets. Collaborates and partners with other Supply Chain teams, Branch and Field Operations, and Digital Operations to drive process continuous improvement around intra-network and final mile flows.

Key Job Responsibilities:

• Routing / Scheduling

• Understand routing methodologies and balance them against real-world inputs to build efficient, multi-stop routes.
• Work with internal and external customers to identify occasional non-standard priorities.
• Dynamically re-rack route plans as operational constraints are introduced (call outs, equipment issues, etc.).

• Monitoring / Tracking

• Monitor route progress and proactively communicate to minimize potential service failures.
• Reply to ad hoc route status requests from customers.
• Follow-up on routes to ensure standards and service agreements are upheld.

• Customer Service

• Establish rapport with internal customers to keep daily two-way communication channels open.
• Solicit feedback from internal customers on route structure and performance.
• Provide regular performance report outs to internal teams.

• Analytics

• Work across multiple systems to decipher route requirements.
• Communicate with internal and external customers to ensure routing data is complete and accurate.
• Compile route specific data inside a Transportation Management System (TMS).
• Contribute to internal conversations about routing methodology.
• Use data to cultivate meaningful insights on transportation performance.
• Understand how various routing decisions affect Key Performance Indicators.

• Continuous Improvement

• Participate in Continuous Improvement efforts related to transportation processes.

In this role, you’ll need:

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree
• 3-5 years working in a multi-stop route planning / dispatch environment
• Minimum of 1 year working directly in a Transportation Management System (TMS)
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Knowledge of Lean concepts and tools
• Robust analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
• Good organization skills; with a strong attention to detail
• Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a fast-paced environment, yet maintain focus
• Intermediate MS Office applications skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Ability to work both independently and within a team
• Process-oriented
• Customer-focused
