Job Description

The Lead Battery Systems Engineer will focus on applying GM’s battery technology to a wide variety of new and innovative applications. This role is responsible for capturing and understanding application requirements, leading the analysis of and specifying energy storage solutions. They will also define and advise the development of a family of flexible and scalable energy storage technologies that can be efficiently used by various applications.

Responsibilities:

• Lead assessments of GM high voltage systems on other applications.
• Synthesize energy storage system designs based on customer requirements.
• Lead the analysis of potential designs, including electrical capability, battery life, thermal, isolation/creepage and clearance, etc. Define unique analytical methods and define standard work as required.
• Develop system, component, and sub-component specifications for the various elements of energy storage systems including functional, performance, safety and compliance requirements.
• Develop an efficient energy storage solution strategy – including batteries, controls and associated hardware. Define and direct development of required technology/software.
• Collaborate with internal and external partners to evaluate product technical solutions to ensure efficient, safe, and reliable designs.
• Work multi-functionally to curate efficient technologies/solutions/components for innovative product design.
• Collaborate in a team environment and/or take charge of opportunities to develop efficient solutions for customers and development programs.

Additional Job Description

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, chemical, mechanical, or other relevant engineering field required.
• 8+ years of engineering experience.
• 3+ years of product development experience in battery and/or high voltage electrical systems.
• Ability to lead, empower, and facilitate others in group situations.
• High level of strategic agility and desire to work in a sophisticated and evolving environment and an innovative mentality.
• Ability to travel 10-15% of the time.

Desired Skills:

• Master’s degree in engineering or business.
• Familiarity with multi-physics modeling and CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) techniques.
