The Role:

At General Produce, we have an outstanding opportunity for an up and coming transportation professional to join an industry leading company. You will be reporting to and partnering with the Transportation Manager to manage all things transportation. The role will require significant detailed hands on efforts in routing, dispatch, driver management and customers. A successful candidate will be able to operate in a fast-paced, fluid environment and be able to relate and manage a fleet of route drivers.

Responsibilities

• Be the company expert and provide leadership in the area of Transportation and Logistics.
• Meets expected metrics for productivity, quality and service.
• Analyzes effectiveness of all Transportation activities and directs implementation of policies and practices necessary to achieve highest service/low-cost model.
• Conduct problem analysis and problem resolution at both a strategic and functional level.
• Evaluates all routes for maximum efficiency, including creating and eliminating routes.
• Conducts thorough and objective accident investigations related to company fleet. Develops cause-analysis of accidents and follows up to ensure appropriate corrective measures and training are implemented.
• Coordinates with broker and insurance carrier any motor vehicle accident claims.
• Schedules drivers on a weekly basis, taking into consideration their driver licenses: Commercial Drivers or C License Drivers.
• Meets all legal requirements and ensures compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Department of Transportation (DOT), California Air Resources Board (CARB), International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA), International Registration Plan (IRP), Unified Carrier Registration (UCR), Basic Inspection of Terminals (BIT) and others.
• Manages the procurement of trucks, tractors, automobiles, trailers and other equipment.

• Ensures propermaintenance of trucks, tractors, automobiles, trailers and equipment.
• Reviews and approves expenses for our fleet and related equipment.

Supervisory Functions:

• Supervise the Routing, Dispatch and Drivers delivering product to our customers.
• Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

• Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications:

• Solid knowledge of supply chain management.
• Effective written and oral communications including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Knowledge and experience with budgeting, operations management, inventory control, material handling and customer service
• Innovation in thought processes in order to design and implement programs.
• Strong interpersonal skills to gain the confidence and support of the workforce.
• Proficient in Windows-based computer applications and computer research skills.
• Effective time management.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects.
• Management and supervisory skills.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Maintain a valid California Driver License-Class A.

Education /Experience:

• Five year’s experience in Transportation Leadership.
• Proven track record and related job experiences within the produce industry preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in business/management or related field experience is preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 – $75,000.00 per year
