Our HIM Division offers our clients Coding Consulting & Compliance Services as well as Coding OutPartnering™ from our Spokane Valley office and remotely. Position Summary:

The Inpatient Coding Manager will oversee all day-to-day operations for assigned projects within the HIM coding unit, as well as assist senior leadership with any additional tasks. Qualified applicants must complete coding exam as part of vetting process.

Requirements:

Certification:

• Any of the following base credentials: CCS, CCS-P, CPC, RHIT, RHIA

Experience:

• Prior supervisory experience
• 3-5 years of ProFee and/or Facility coding experience required
• Vendor experience highly preferred

Managerial Duties:

• Direct staff assignments for multiple clients based on client needs and staff availability.
• Act as project leadership resource to assigned staff regarding client systems, client policies/procedures, as well as collaborating with QA team regarding coding guidelines and/or the Implementation Team regarding client job aides, client system access validation and HRG coding workflow.
• Monitor staff productivity and quality assessments.
• Interview and onboard new staff, including completion of all associated HR, HIM and/or IT paperwork.
• Conduct staff development plans, monthly scorecards, annual performance appraisals, monthly executive summaries and counseling/mentoring staff, as needed or requested.
• Lead weekly/bi-weekly client meetings to include preparation of agendas and meeting summaries, as well as ensuring any/all communication logs and/or productivity updates are validated and sent to the client in a timely manner, based on client preferences.
• Monitor and report weekly to senior leadership regarding client/project QA and productivity, status of DNFB/unbilled volumes, any obstacles/challenges/successes, as well as any potential/realized changes to FTE needs, including any recruitment specifics.
• Maintain a working knowledge, and stay abreast of, appropriate CPT-4, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, DRG/APC coding principles, modifier usage, medical terminology, governmental regulations, protocols and third party payer requirements pertaining to billing, coding and documentation, as well as client-specific guidelines, including any relevant to RHC, FQHC, Indian Health Services, Regional CMS contractors/Medicaid contracts, etc.
• Ensure that assigned staff are validating all services documented in the patient’s medical record and alerting senior leadership, including QA leadership, of any concerns related to project or individual coding compliance. When services are not documented appropriately, facilitate requests to attain proper documentation, in a timely manner, based upon the protocols developed by Healthcare Resource Group and client preferences.
• Respond to client communication in a timely and professional manner, proactively validating any coding guidance with QA and/or senior leadership, as well as communicating any client changes/issues or coding guideline changes/updates/reminders, to appropriate project staff, including updating related job aides.
• Update senior leadership of any potential/realized changes to client leadership or contract status.
• Oversee staff resolution of errors in the pre-processor and post-processor editing systems when assigned by client, utilizing the preferred client correction and/or notification processes.
• Provide written reports to senior leadership with audit/review findings and trend analysis.
• Review and recommend changes to policies and procedures to improve coding and data management for Healthcare Resource Group and client.
• Exercise excellent oral and written communication skills in order to effectively interact and communicate with multiple professional disciplines.
