Hospice of Michigan Hiring for Senior Accountant Job at Southfield, MI Full Time

Job Summary: The Senior Accountant is responsible for coordinating the month-end close and financial statement preparation. Prepares monthly account reconciliations or quarterly audit schedules. Takes lead in annual financial audit.

Essential Functions:

• Prepares and enters journal entries accurately for financial statement preparation.
• Prepares and enters Foundation related activity into the general ledger, including tracking and reporting all restricted fund releases.
• Prepares account reconciliation schedules for asset and liability accounts.
• Supports NSSG Partner Invoice preparation and collections.
• Processes Deposits and Credit Card payments as needed.
• Completes external reporting requirements, this includes Sales and Use Tax, Census reports, and any other annual surveys.
• Ensures that all updates needed for financial reporting are entered and prepares reports for financial packets.
• Ensures timely distribution of statements and explanations for any variances identified.
• Actively participates in quality assurance processes/programs.
• Communicates with internal/external customers regarding status of issues/questions or resolving problems.
• Updates and coordinates reporting for board packets (quarterly).
• Prepares analysis of financials for financial packets to provide information to directors/managers for month end deadlines.
• Serves as lead Accountant for audit preparation, and external reporting requirements.
• Actively participates in meetings at the individual, group, and organizational levels, both within and external to the organization, to achieve desired outcomes.
• Ensure timely distribution of statements and any other related reporting.
• Utilizes allocated supplies and resources appropriately to ensure business outcomes are met.
• Actively participates in internal and external education, training, in-services, and other activities to promote personal and professional growth.
• Adjusts to changes in workload and schedules based on changing departmental and organizational priorities.
• Adheres to organizational Code of Conduct, policies, procedures, protocols, processes, and all regulatory and legal requirements.
• Adheres to the NorthStar standards to care for every person, every time, 100% of the time.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and knowledge of business and management principles required.
• Five (5) or more years of progressively increasing responsible accounting experience required.
• Must be computer literate, with demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Must have strong aptitude for detail, accuracy, and follow through
• Must be familiar with and have operational knowledge of standard office business machines
• Must possess an understanding of performance improvement and be able to communicate and operationalize performance improvement initiatives at the departmental and organizational level.
• Must possess excellent interpersonal skills, sound judgment, effective organizational, prioritization and follow-through skills, attention to detail, tact, dependability, emotional intelligence and the ability to promote positive, constructive relationships with communication and collaboration at all levels with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to effectively use technology in support of management and clinical operations.
• Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently and be able to communicate orally and in writing in internal and external relationships for all essential job functions.
• Ability to prioritize multiple demands. Demonstrates integrity and flexibility and participates actively in change and quality improvement initiatives.
