OVERALL PURPOSE:

The staff accountant will be responsible for computing and preparing journal entries, general ledger maintenance, and financial statements. They will assist with, analyze, and prepare other financial reports. Research will be critical to provide detailed analysis on business unit costs (materials, inventory, labor, etc.).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist in the business unit monthly accounting close. This includes completing and posting journal entries, financial statements in compliance with accounting principles and performing monthly financial analysis. Investigate and explain variances.
• Monitor and manage inventory levels to stay within guidelines. Communicate with Business Unit Manager and plant floor managers so they are aware of excess inventories.
• Prepare month end reconciliations for balance sheet accounts. Find and report variances.
• Record Payroll journal entry & payroll accrual.
• Evaluate, compile and report sales & use tax.
• Administer the fixed asset process.
• Validate billing accuracy, post customer payments and collections as needed.
• Supports the business units by providing expense account analysis, customer collection history, vendor analysis, etc.
• Support the Controller for monthly/quarterly reporting to Corporate.
• Subsidiary Schedules: Reviews supporting schedules to ensure that the Company’s accounting practices are being maintained, i.e., insurance, fixed assets, amortization of prepaid; makes recommendations where applicable.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required by Controller.

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting with three years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in manufacturing.
• Thorough knowledge of accounting principles/rules.
• Thorough understanding of accounting software functionality and interrelated workflow and processes.
• Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, database applications, accounting systems, internet, email, etc.)
• Experience with Microsoft D365 is preferred, but not required.
• Strong communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work and interact with all departments throughout the organization.
