Storytelling + Community Associate (Full-Time)

Keap is looking for a Full-Time Community Associate to help nurture long-term, loving relationships between Keap and all our customers, and to help create and share stories that bring to life the work we do at Keap.

• Schedule: Monday through Friday, 9AM – 5PM
• Starting base pay: $24.50/hour
• Location: Hybrid Remote, with required ability to work in the West Village, NYC multiple times per month and Kingston, NY ~1-2x per month

Keap is a monthly candle subscription—at the core, Keap facilitates a reconnection to the natural world, our loved ones, and our own spirit. The candles blend the scents of acclaimed master perfumer Christophe Laudamiel with a regenerative approach to materials and packaging. We make our products in-house in our Kingston studio and are a certified B Corp.

You are joining a small team and will be the person responsible for helping create and coordinate Keap’s monthly and ongoing storytelling systems across email, blog and partnerships to create deeper connections between us, our community, our partners. You will work directly with the founders of Keap. In this role, you’re equally at home drafting the copy and email layouts for our monthly newsletters and blog posts, working closely with a number of internal and external contributors as you do so, as you are using and improving the tools, systems and tracking we use to ensure we do this work ever-more consistently. You are masterful at staying on top of multifaceted projects, and communicating as needed to keep everyone involved updated.

You have a striking ability to use language to communicate clearly and effectively, ensuring that complex stories are told both clearly, and when relevant, poetically. You are comfortable adhering to written and design style guides to create stories, and then translate them into beautiful emails, blog posts or printed materials. You bring an innate curiosity and confidence to your work, suggesting thoughtful new ideas when they align with the company’s vision.

You enjoy the idea of taking a scientific approach to your work: continuously thinking about what you’re doing, testing new ways to do it more effectively and sharing breakthroughs with the team. IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL…

Own the creation and coordination of Keap’s monthly and ongoing storytelling systems across email, blog and partnerships to create deeper connections between us, our community, our partners and the world. This will include:

• Creatively drafting monthly storytelling documents that outline core emails and blog posts for the months ahead.
• Coordinating with various contributors to Keap’s monthly storytelling (writers, photographers, designers) to ensure inputs are ready by key deadlines, and then reviewed as necessary.
• Creating blog posts on the Keap blog as part of our monthly storytelling and broader storytelling systems. Reviewing and updating our core blog posts to ensure they remain up-to-date and reviewed on a semi-regular basis.
• Creating all email campaign layouts in line with existing design templates, gathering feedback and scheduling email campaigns in our email system.
• Reviewing, updating and improving our ongoing automated emails in our email system.
• Drafting monthly website updates to ensure smooth seasonal changeovers.
• Making simple changes to images e.g. size, brightness, to ensure they work best in our communication channels.
• Ad-hoc, simple design tasks as needed e.g. designing a new printed insert inline with Keap’s design style guide.
• Continuously improving our Monthly Storytelling + Community systems by updating tools, workflows and documentation in pursuit of better, easier work.
• Helping Keap grow our hospitality partnership business with well designed marketing collateral and emails, as well as contributing to ongoing outreach as part of our team-wide efforts. Responding to partners, processing re-orders and maintaining existing Burn Partner accounts to ensure internal information is up to date.
• Taking on future rotations to other parts of our Storytelling + Community team.
• Helping to define, use, improve, communicate and train the core Keap Storytelling + Community systems.
• Be willing to perform other internal and external Storytelling & Community oriented work duties as needed, and as the company grows.

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree required
• Availability to work remotely up to 5 days/week, and on-site at a co-workspace in downtown Manhattan multiple times per month, and visit Kingston 1-2x per month.
• Excellent writer with experience working in a written communication or design-oriented role, creating finished written and designed products e.g. emails or articles, that were shared with large audiences.
• Very strong time and project management skills and ability to manage multiple work streams to competing deadlines.
• Ability to creatively implement and improve systems with a rigorous approach to work.
• Ability to think ahead and plan over a multi-quarter timeline
• Must have strong customer support orientation (for internal/external customers), demonstrated professional demeanor, and the ability to maintain confidential information
• Must have strong interpersonal skills and good judgment and be capable of communicating with a diverse range of individuals.
• Ability to be a team player, meet deadlines, and keep track of job key metrics
• Must have excellent email writing skills and ability to communicate effectively with partners and team members in the English language, verbally and in writing through Slack, email and written notes
• Ability to use, maintain, update, and improve systems documentation, including on Keap’s digital systems
• Must work effectively with Senior-level leaders and staff; must also be able to work independently
• Excellent computer skills, including but not limited to ability to use Google Chrome, Sheets, Slides, Drive, Gmail, and ability to learn new tools quickly.

Preferred:

• Experience working with modern design tools and workflows (Figma preferred, but not required, Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop a plus)
• Experience working with email marketing tools to create campaigns and automated email systems (Klayvio preferred, but not required)
• Experience in lean, improvement-oriented culture a plus
• Experience growing a product business through story-driven marketing and partnerships a plus
• Other tools experience valued: Gorgias, Shopify, Recharge, Slack, Slab.
• Experience and relationships in the hospitality industry a plus
• Valued specific prior knowledge: Worked with Slack, Gorgias, Slab, Shopify, Recharge a plus. Experience writing longform blog posts with requisite research. Basic front-end coding experience is a plus
• Ability to bring stories to life with creative writing, while adhering to standard grammar and writing styles.
• Past experience communicating empathetically (hospitality manager, social work, non-violent communication etc.) valued.

KEAP AND COVID-19

• This role does not require repeated exposure to members of the public. Duties will be performed remotely with a requirement to meet in-person at a co-working space or in Kingston, NY at the Keap studio a number of times a month.

This position is full-time and hybrid, with work happening remotely and in-person in NYC and Kingston, NY. All full-time Keap employees currently receive 5 weeks paid vacation, $200/month towards healthcare expenses or insurance premiums, major candle benefits, and more. We’re always working to improve our pay and benefits and will continue to increase these as our company grows.
