The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the Senior Human Resource Generalist performs a full array of highly skilled, complex, technical, and professional Human Resources functions. In this capacity, the Sr HR Generalist will implement and deliver key HR solutions across all functional areas of HR, providing a best-in-class experience for our employees. The Senior Human Resource Generalist oversees a wide variety of human resources activities in support of the employee life cycle to include talent acquisition, performance, training, total rewards, engagement, retention, as well as employee and labor relations. This position is responsible for researching and responding to complex HR inquiries by effectively interpreting university policies and processes as well as state and federal regulations pertinent to the issue at hand. The Senior Human Resource Generalist will serve as a consultant, resource and advisor to leadership and the community at large to assist with change management, special projects, and other university initiatives as applicable.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Work in partnership with leaders, key stakeholders and HR colleagues to shape, develop and deliver HR plans and solutions in line with the needs and priorities of the university.
• Identify HR priorities from corporate and departmental business plans, translating requirements into effective HR practices and delivering people solutions aligned to business objectives.
• Deliver key HR initiatives across the HR spectrum, including workforce planning, restructuring, resourcing, talent management, pay and reward, employee and labor relations, employee engagement and performance management.
• Leverage data and reporting to support HR strategies and solutions and assist leadership with meaningful and actionable information.
• Maintain a clear understanding and provide up to date knowledge of the legal framework within which HR operates; developing or revision HR policies in line with current legislation and keeping abreast of innovative and informed best practices.
• Execute a continuous improvement vision for the university’s employee onboarding, orientation and offboarding processes through benchmarking and research, partnering with other members of the HR team and industry specialists.
• Counsel staff and supervisors on issues including (but not limited to) performance management, policy and procedure questions, attendance, conflict management, and work scheduling.
• Proactively identify potential employee relations, labor, policy, or leave issues/problems and takes the necessary steps to partner with internal resources, research legal/regulatory compliance requirements, university HR policy compliance, potential impact on employee morale/relations, and develops recommendations on appropriate steps to respond to issues/problems for review.
• Take a proactive approach to risk management, ensuring risks and issues are identified, addressed and reported and, where appropriate, escalated.
• Establish a process and schedule for rounding with community leaders to discuss various HR related matters and provide assistance as needed.
• Develop targeted internal employee communications and oversee special projects within the HR department as needed.
• Assist with any other duties as needed to help drive the university’s vision, mission, and abide by the university’s values.

Qualities and Capabilities

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources (or related field) or equivalent combination of education and experience. Masters degree preferred.
• A minimum of 5 to 8 years of progressive responsibility in developing, implementing and administering human resources programs.
• Advanced understanding of general human resources policies and procedures
• Advanced knowledge of employment/labor laws
• Outstanding knowledge of MS Office; HRIS systems will be a plus
• Strong commitment to customer service, confidentiality, and professionalism
• Demonstrated strong organizational skills and ability to plan, prioritize and organize project work, at times with competing priorities
• Demonstrated strong analytical, emotional intelligence, and written and verbal communication skills required
• Ability to build collaborative relationships within department across the university
