Position description
Medical Microrobots Lab, founded and led by the PI, Dr. Hakan Ceylan (https://www.linkedin.com/in/hakan-ceylan-19262849/) , focuses on cutting-edge research at the intersections of robotics, materials, and synthetic biology. A multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and medical doctors develops new approaches to overcome roadblocking challenges in minimally invasive procedures, targeted delivery, cell therapies, and tissue engineering. We are searching for two postdoctoral researchers to this team. Successful candidates will focus on minimally invasive medical device development and testing in various in vitro phantoms as well as small and large animal models. The PI places a strong emphasis on translation toward first-in-human applications. The first appointee will design, realize and test medical microrobots for the minimally invasive surgery project. The second one will design, realize and test new soft robots for endovascular applications. Both appointees will perform cutting-edge research, develop new ideas, conduct scientifically sound experiments, write manuscripts, and attend conferences.
In terms of training and career goals, the PI will work with candidates on individual career development plans that include the training in advanced career skills such as project management, grant writing, manuscript submission, peer review, team leadership, and other relevant skills for their future academic independence.
Future career goals for the applicant (towards the end of a 2-3 year training period in the group) may include a transition to independence as a new PI or the potential of partaking in scientifically related entrepreneurial activities (contingent upon achievement of academic milestones).
Other roles of the candidate include but are not limited to the development of research ideas, project, and study protocols, participation in weekly research meetings, journal clubs, mentoring guest researchers, and correspondence with institutional bodies regarding the safety regulations and use of research labs and shared spaces.
