Summary
The School of Creative Expression at Missional University invites applications for an online faculty position in Anthropology of Music Arts teaching courses in the myths, beliefs, and religious traditions expressed in musical systems of global music cultures. Using the concepts, principles, and theoretical models used by anthropologists, the professor will design and deliver courses that give students an analysis of music making as behavior grounded in both cultural aesthetics and societal customs and practices in Latino, African, Asian, and Western cultures and in 21st-century pancultural global expressions.
Applicants must sufficient background in both cultural anthropology and in music arts. Thus either a Ph.D. in Anthropology with a Bachelor or Master’s in Music or Ethnomusicology OR a Doctorate in ethnomusicology with at least an MA in Anthropology is required. Applicants may teach online from anywhere on the globe and do not have to have US residency, but must be fluent in English and have a stable internet connection.
Since the Missional University is dedicated to training grassroots missional leaders in the evangelical tradition, administrative staff and faculty members must commit to both our faith and ethos statements. Responsibilities and Duties
The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate practical international or intercultural experience within their own country or beyond. Applicants must have a strong orientation to relating the study of culture and music to missionary and ministry service in the mission of God.
Teaching responsibilities include the development and delivery of anthropology of music courses related to various regional and religious music categories from an anthropological perspective. These eLearning courses are designed to equip Christian believers to serve in churches, denominational and mission agencies, community ministries and other faith-based and community service organizations around the globe. The successful applicant will function as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) working with an instructional technologist to design, develop and deploy his or her own courses.
