Job description
The Cost Accountant at Murphy Tower Service must possess solid organizational, communication, problem-solving and research abilities. Strong technology expertise, including proficiency with Microsoft Excel and experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems is also expected.
Job duties of Cost Accountant
· Implementing cost standards for materials and labor
· Preparing cost of goods sold and production reports
· Reconciling beginning raw materials, work-in-progress and finished-production to revenue
· Accountable for the ongoing analysis of materials flow, project costs, project and business unit margin analysis, and tracing costs back to underlying activities and drivers
· Constructs and monitors cost-effective data accumulation and management systems
· Develops and reviews the controls needed for data accumulation, and reporting systems
· Provides detailed job-costing analysis to support operations and management with the establishment of KPI’s and Continuous Improvement initiatives
· Develops and maintains absorption rates by business unit and work center including labor costs and overhead
· Coordinates with Director of Procurement-Inventory-Logistics to conduct periodic inventory counts and cycle counts
· Maintains standard costs and reviews standard and actual costs for inaccuracies including variance analysis and treatment of variances in accordance with GAAP
· Develops meaningful and comprehensive reporting packages to provide current and accurate information to management to support business decisions related to production, bidding and pricing of our products and services
· Meets with business unit directors and project supervisors and performs bid process and project walk through to understand construction and production processes, variances, reporting errors, and interpretation of cost build ups
· This individual may be asked to assist with ad-hoc projects and general office support tasks when necessary. These responsibilities and tasks will be coordinated with and supervised by the company Controller.

Qualification Standards
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in the field of accounting or other related field. Experience may be considered as a substitute for this requirement.
