General Description: The Mustang Expediting Transportation Service Manager (TSM) is the friendly face of Mustang Expediting at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Service Logistics Center (CHOP-SLC). We never forget that we help CHOP take care of children and infants – they are counting on us. The TSM reports directly to the Director of Fleet Operations and will be responsible for leading and inspiring team members, managing all aspects of transportation, preventive maintenance, staffing, safety, compliance, and budget for Mustang’s operations in support of service to CHOP. This position may assist the Technicians in performing system service, maintenance, and support activities — in emergent or critical situations the TSM may perform these activities directly. In the absence of the Director of Fleet Operations, the TSM may be required to act on his/her behalf. This position is required to be on call 24 hours per day/7 days per week to maintain continuous operations of critical fleet equipment, facilities, and systems – in order to maintain our promise of caring for all the children and infants within the CHOP Service Logistics Center.

The successful TSM, will possess exceptional leadership skills and maintain the Mustang Expediting F.O.C.U.S. Operating principles, CHOP’s I.C.A.R.E values, and CHOP service standards. The TSM will demonstrate extensive knowledge of transportation management systems and have excellent analytical skills.

• Directing activities related to dispatching, routing, and tracking of transportation assets.
• Staffs, plans, organizes, directs, and monitors material transportation services for CHOP to assure work is performed consistent with the Mustang Expediting and CHOP standards.
• Develops and maintains standard work.
• Directs investigations to verify and resolve customer or shipper complaints.
• Collaborates with staff members to formulate and implement transportation-related procedures as well as company revenue goals and customer service objectives.
• Arranges repairs and routine maintenance of transportation vehicles.
• Ensures compliance with transportation-related policies, as well as safety rules, union contracts, and government regulations.
• Promotes safe work activities by conducting safety audits and attending company safety meetings.
• Enforces regulatory and company policy compliance to improve workplace and employee safety and readiness.
• Reviews and assesses ongoing operations and develops initiatives for continuous process improvement.
• Motivates and trains employees to maximize team productivity.
• Conducts periodic inspections and daily fleet walks for safety concerns and hazards.
• Recruits, interviews, hires and trains new and current employees.
• Supervises personnel, provides leadership, guidance, instruction, work allocation, training, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
• Completes the time and attendance scheduling and first-level approval for assigned personnel.
• Supervises preventive maintenance programs; supervises seasonal facilities’ support activities, including off-season servicing of equipment, systems, and infrastructure.
• Ensures readiness and compliance with regulatory matters related to maintenance and assigned equipment and facilities.
• Identifies required training (mandated and career development) for all maintenance employees and ensures compliance with established policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Completes employee performance evaluations for assigned personnel
• Provides the highest level of customer service and professionalism to all internal and external customers
• Manages projects and programs to assist in accomplishment of established goals
• Maintains, supervises, and develops electronic asset databases and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems as directed
• Interfaces with regulatory and government agencies, vendors, contractors, and customers on matters related to fleet equipment, facilities, and systems
• Manages systems to maintain records for equipment, inventories, preventive maintenance, staff, DOT hours of service, and other compliance activities
• Develops and tracks key performance indicators and other high-level analysis and diagnostic reports

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in logistics, business management, engineering, or related field is preferred.
• At least 5 years of experience as a transportation manager in a similar industry.
• Solid knowledge of the transportation industry and logistics.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Critical thinking skills and knowledge of analytics.
• Knowledge of Lean-Six Sigma with the capacity to develop standard work and lead continuous improvement initiatives is recommended.
• Comfortable working with transportation-related government regulations.
• Experience working with transport management systems, such as FreightPath.
• Ability to work well with team members and navigate stressful situations.
• Demonstrated excellence in leading teams
• Good conflict resolution skills.

Pay: $65,000.00 – $75,000.00 per year
