Importance of Business Analyst in Supply Chain Industry
Companies also rely on Business Analysts to determine if their current logistics plans, computer systems, and shipping procedures could be improved. Business Analysts study current techniques and research other options to decide how to improve services. If a new system is put in place, a Business Analyst may be responsible for providing training for managers and shipping clerks. A person who wants to become a supply chain analyst can develop the skills needed in retail, merchandising, and inventory clerk positions. Strong computer skills are very important as well, so people with backgrounds in software engineering or data mining are at an advantage when applying for analyst positions.
The Supply Chain Analyst will be responsible for the development, execution and maintenance of all key metrics and ad hoc analysis across Supply Chain, including Purchasing, Inventory Management, Distribution Management and Transportation. Participate in Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP), providing supporting analysis and distilling complex supply chain concepts down to actionable decisions. Work cross functionally to define the assumptions, query the data, build the models and align stakeholders on the process for analyzing data and developing summary actionable information. Support existing demand forecasting, inventory and production planning processes, learning existing models and practices. Gather and integrate relevant data quickly (e.g. trade activity, consumer trends, inventory policies, production schedules) and adapt existing plans to new information Support collaboration efforts across functions and will manage initiatives and projects from ideation to execution.
