POSITION: Production and Technical Manager (Full-time)

REPORTS TO: Executive Artistic Director

SUMMARY: The Production and Technical Manager at New Village Arts is responsible for managing all aspects of the theatrical productions at New Village Arts. The goals of the position are to ensure the smooth running of productions, the safety of the facility and staff, and the successful implementation of design elements within budget.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITY:

• Responsible for planning and physical realization of each production in year-round season as production manager, reporting to Executive Artistic Director

JOB DUTIES

• Maintain schedule from pre-production to strike of each show, manage deadlines, organize and lead regular production meetings
• Working with NVA’s HR Consultant, hire or assist with the hiring of production personnel, performers, stage managers, crew members, and the technical team
• Oversee stage management staff responsible for the smooth running of theatre productions; train staff in best NVA practices
• Liaise with directors, choreographers, and music directors and oversee with the production personnel
• Assist marketing staff with collecting information for production programs
• Manage coordination between production and front of house staff
• Manage performance maintenance and the practical and day to day needs of the artistic staff, crew, performers, and musicians and troubleshoot any problems that arise
• Manage load-in and strike with Master Carpenter, Master Electrician and crew
• Manage upkeep and create comfortable environments for actors and crew (ie dressing rooms, actor restroom, backstage areas)
• Manage designers and builders to stay within budget
• Coordinating auditions and hiring staff to run them
• Work and attend gala and donor events, when possible
• Participate in contracts and union negotiations

NECESSARY EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

• Previous theatrical experience required. Candidates with experience as stage managers, technicians, casting directors, designers, producers, theatre administrators, etc. may be a good fit for this position.
• Supervisory/managerial experience required. The Production and Technical Manager supervises various production staff members and should demonstrate strong leadership skills.
• At least a general understanding of various technical elements of live theatre, such as lighting instruments, sound equipment, set construction, etc.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Sharepoint, etc)
• Proficiency with Google Calendar
• Strong organization and communication skills

COMPENSATION AND HOURS:

• Full-time, 40 hours/week
• Benefits include health, dental, vision, 2 weeks paid time off for first-year employees (100 hours after first year)
