THE COMPANY
Parea Biosciences is a start-up PA Medical Marijuana grower-processor with operations in Coal Township. Parea started operations in April 2020 and are rapidly scaling to meet the demands of patients. Keystone Center of Integrative Wellness (KCIW) is the sibling dispensary currently with operations in Williamsport, but with licenses to open two addition locations in PA Region 4. KCIW started operations in July 2018. Both companies are under Ubuntu Holdings with headquarters in Carlisle, PA. Ideally, the position would be located within a commute distance to Coal Township, PA.

Position Summary

The controller is responsible for all the accounting processes, financial transactions, standard costing, and financial reporting functions at our Coal Township G/P and our Dispensary locations (currently in Williamsport but expanding to three locations within the next 12 months). The Controller partners with site leadership to ensure accuracy of periodic results and develop and monitor the internal controls needed. The controller will also work with FP&A to analyze variances and develop actions to improve accuracy and margins.

Essential Functions

• Develops a high performing team to handle AP, AR, Payroll, and GAAP financial reporting
• Creates and implements appropriate best practices and internal controls necessary to manage day-to-day accounting function
• Manages standard costing and investigates all variances to ensure proper inventory valuation and allocation/management of costs
• Leads fixed asset accounting
• Manages physical control of local site inventory through cycle count procedures
• Builds out cost models for new product development
• Works closely with corporate compliance to ensure accounting SOPs meet state DOH audit needs
• Drives labor reporting and works with site leadership to drive efficiencies
• Develop a timeline for close procedures that meet lender reporting requirements and generate reports on that timeline

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting or MBA required
• CPA or CMA required; Prior controller experience strongly preferred
• Minimum of 5 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment required
• Excellent understanding of internal controls as it relates to inventory, and experience in implementation and documentation of such controls required
• Experience in hiring and managing a team required
• Experience working in a fast-paced, start-up or high-growth environment preferred
• Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Must be able to pass a background check
