Payroll and Benefits Accountant

We are seeking a full-time Payroll and Benefits Accountant at our Corporate Office in Cape Girardeau, MO. This is a salary position that will pay based on experience. This position would work with existing payroll department staff member and management.

This position requires great attention to detail, expert understanding of payroll and benefits, expert understanding of accounting debits and credits, and a friendly and professional personality. Hours are typical business hours and occasional Saturday mornings.

If qualified and experienced applicant is found this position may lead to full charge general ledger accounting duties along with the duties below, with increase in salary.

Responsibilities may include but not limited to:

• Assist with weekly in-house payroll processing for the company that includes 71 stores in 4 states and growing.
• Perform background checks and electronically maintain personnel files, I9’s and other related forms.
• Answer questions from employees relating to payroll and benefits.
• Reconcile Insurance benefit accounts and process invoices.
• Reconcile and file, weekly, monthly, quarterly payroll reports and year end W2’s in 4 states.
• Update and maintain ACA reporting throughout the year.
• Update and maintain employee manual and forms needed by our stores.
• Reconcile general ledger accounts as related to payroll and benefits. Make and post monthly recurring and one off Journal Entries to General Ledger software.
• Excel Spreadsheet work using advanced skills such as VLookup and If Stmts
• Other accounting related duties to be assigned.

Qualifications and Skills:

• At least 5 years’ experience in payroll and benefits accounting.
• Experience with UKG Kronos is beneficial.
• Critical, analytical, and creative thinking to identify and solve problems.
• Working with large volumes of data and documents.
• Accuracy and number balancing skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications with emphasis in advanced Excel skills.
• Organizational and time management skills.
• Excellent written and communication skills.
• Ability to work and communicate with all other positions within the company.
• Willingness to grow knowledge and skills.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $40,000.00 – $60,000.00 per year
