Summary

The Red Bay Coffee Education and Training Manager is primarily responsible for training, cultivating coffee recipes, and ensuring Red Bay Coffee standards remain consistent amongst all retail staff, new wholesale clients and continuing education courses. This person will conduct new hire trainings out of our headquarters in Oakland, CA or on site training in our retail stores throughout the Bay Area.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of retail experience working in specialty coffee.
• Minimum 2 years experience in a retail store leadership or training role.
• Demonstrates a passion and enthusiasm for coffee and training others.
• Self-motivated and excellent organizational and time management skills; with the ability to juggle multiple projects at once.
• Communicate professionally and effectively both verbally and in writing, including being able to take thorough notes and record observations.
• Must have a welcoming presence as you will be onboarding new hires.
• Have a flexible schedule and be willing to work occasional evenings, weekends, holidays.

Primary Responsibilities

• Quality Control & workflow standards/accountability (in-store and in coffee lab)
• Training Red Bay’s retail staff new and ongoing trainings
• Training and onboarding new Wholesale clients
• Assist managers in standard enforcement/accountability
• Barista reviews/check-ins
• Conduct Virtual Coffee tastings
• Lead retail focused classes/demonstrations
• Work with Coffee Shop Leads to utilize training time/classes efficiently
• Administer retail employee barista testing and onboarding.
• Collaborate with Red Bay’s executive team on coffee standards.
• Report weekly updates and goals to the executive team.
• Work closely with the Director of Retail Operations to constantly improve and streamline the education curriculum.
• Lead public classes (cuppings, home brewing, introduction to espresso and intermediate espresso).
• Create and refine training materials, manuals, and recipe guides.
• Provide coffee equipment tech support for all stores and wholesale clients.
