The RRCC seeks an Artistic Director for the 2022-2023 Season, which begins in August, so the search will be expeditious. We will begin interviews the week of May 9.

The Round Rock Community Choir (RRCC) is an auditioned choir based in Round Rock, Texas. It includes an adult choir of approximately 85 members, two ensembles of adult choir members — a 24-member mixed chorus (Voices on Fire) and a 24-member female chorus (Women’s Ensemble) — and a Youth Choir (led by its own director).

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Artistic Director will devise and implement creative and relevant artistic programs for the
RRCC in line with our mission and values as a community arts organization in Central Texas. The
Artistic Director will oversee all artistic activities of the RRCC’s performing groups. This individual will also serve as the principal conductor for rehearsals and a variety of performances. Working with the Board of Directors, the Artistic Director will guide the planning and execution of an artistic vision that mentors and builds morale among singers who have varying levels of experience and music education.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Advance the mission of the Round Rock Community Choir

• Create a positive, growth-oriented musical environment for all members.
• Expand the audience experience, increasing musical knowledge and appreciation among concert attendees and within our community.

• Collaborate with the City of Round Rock Arts, other local arts organizations, music directors, and community groups to advance the arts within Round Rock and the Central Texas area.

2. Design, coordinate, and direct choir programming (60%)

• Serve as the principal conductor of RRCC rehearsals and performances.
• Develop repertoire for each concert and engage the production team in planning for all concerts and outside events.
• Create, communicate, and implement the artistic vision for RRCC in collaboration with the board of directors.
• Oversee the purchase, rental, or otherwise secure all music and licenses required and submit program notes and song lists for each concert program.
• Secure performance rights where appropriate.

3. Work with volunteer choir members (15%)

• Recruit, audition, and select new choir members.
• Train the choir and ensembles in choral techniques.
• Create a rehearsal schedule for the year.
• Audition, select, and coach soloists and small group ensembles.

4. Provide supervision for music-related staff and volunteers (15%)

• Supervise the accompanist.
• Identify and supervise the activities of choir section leaders.
• Coordinate the hiring of instrumentalists as needed.
• Partner with volunteer and paid production staff to ensure quality performance.

5. Participate in Budgeting and Board activities (10%)

• Participate in the creation of annual operating budget and expense forecasting with the Board.
• Operate within the financial limitations established by the annual operating budget and resources, adjusting if the situation requires.
• Meet weekly by phone or videoconference with the Board President.
• Attend monthly Board meetings, preparing a report for each meeting.

(The Artistic Director serves on the Board of Directors as a non-voting ex officio

member, except in a case where a tie vote needs to be broken. )

Required Experience, Skills and Abilities

• 7+ years of experience leading adults in a community, church, or university choral setting.

• Bachelor’s degree in Music required with an emphasis on choral conducting or equivalent conducting experience; Master’s degree preferred.
• Proven ability to lead a diverse set of singers from amateur to professional level training and experience.
• Experience in programming a wide variety of musical genres and producing performances that include instrumentation, orchestral conducting, A/V tech, costuming, and recording.
