POSITION SUMMARY

Warwick Publishing Company is seeking a Controller with a combination of strong technical skills and a high level of business acumen to join their senior leadership team. Working closely with the business owners, the Controller administers the accounting and financial activities of the organization and oversees HR functions, including benefits administration, payroll, and compliance. The ideal candidate will enjoy a fast-paced environment, be detail orientated, and bring a hands-on approach to managing a team of four direct reports. Primary duties for this role and requirements are as follows:

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manages the organization’s accounting-related functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit policies, billing, and fixed asset accounting.
• Prepares financial statements, coordinates information with external accountants as needed, manages all audit activity, and compiles required regulatory reports.
• Develops and compiles reports for management to analyze key metrics and trends pertaining to the company’s financial performance.
• Performs job cost analysis, researches variances, implements changes, and monitors subsequent improvements.
• Works closely with company owners to develop annual financial forecast, cash flow projection, and budgets.
• Ensures state sales tax compliance and oversees the completion of monthly and quarterly state sales tax returns.
• Reviews, tests, and recommends modifications to existing accounting practices, procedures, and internal controls, to increase efficiency and ensure compliance with GAAP.
• Maintains and administers HR and employment policies, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
• Manages and administers the employee health and welfare benefit programs and 401(k) plan. Coordinates annual benefit renewals and ensures that changes and updates are communicated with employees.
• Coordinates business insurance renewals and works closely with insurance agents to ensure proper workers’ compensation claims reporting.
• Monitors compliance, controls, and company procedures to ensure compliance and decrease liability.
• Participates in a wide variety of other projects and tasks as assigned or requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
• At least five (5) year’s professional accounting is required. Prior manufacturing experience is preferred.
• Strong interpersonal skills, including excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• High attention to detail with strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Must possess the ability to manage a team and work well with employees at all levels of the organization.
• Demonstrates the highest level of integrity and business ethics with a strong sense of confidentiality.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, including advanced Excel knowledge, is required. Previous experience in the deployment of various accounting enterprise systems, including the execution of upgrades and evaluation of potential alternatives, is a plus.
