Reporting to the Vice President, Assistant Controller, the Accounting Director will lead a team of 12 at The Cheesecake Factory corporate support center in Calabasas Hills, CA. You’ll be responsible for managing the month-end closing process, financial statement review, monthly account analysis and account reconciliations, as well as coach and develop your team.

Responsibilities

Here’s more of what you’ll get to do:

• Manage a team of 12 (2 direct reports and 10 indirect reports) including their daily activities while providing career growth opportunities and delivering annual performance reviews.
• Direct the Corporate (200 cost centers) and Restaurant (250 cost centers) month-end close process, including review of monthly journal entries, balance sheet schedules, bank reconciliations and other related close processes.
• Maintain effective internal controls to ensure transactions follow Company policies and are properly reflected on the financial statements.
• Assist with evaluating emerging accounting pronouncements and interpretations to determine impact to the Company, as well as continued accounting (e.g. Revenue Recognition, Lease Accounting, Acquisition Accounting, etc.)
• Direct lease accounting under ASC842, including right of use assets and lease liability, base rent, reconciliations, tenant improvement allowances, operating vs. financing determination and landlord audits.
• Manage revenue recognition under ASC606, including promotional and loyalty accounting, multiple element arrangement and royalty revenue.
• Identify process improvements in routine tasks, schedules and close processes.
• Oversee the monthly reimbursement and royalty calculations for our international partners.
• Perform monthly fluctuation analysis of balance sheet and income statement accounts.
• Present monthly results to upper management.
• Assist with SEC filings by managing and preparing reports, ensuring accuracy and quality control. (10-Q, 10-K, 8-K, investor presentations, etc.)
• Assist with quarterly financial and SOX audit by working directly with internal and external auditors to fulfill request for supporting documentation and explaining current accounting.
• Work cross functionally with department heads throughout the company, such as Marketing on gift card and promotional events.
• Complete ad hoc analysis and projects, as needed.

Qualifications

What we require:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
• 15+ years of general accounting experience within a large multi-concept public company, including sound knowledge of GAAP and internal/external audit experience.
• 5+ years of senior leadership experience developing and directing a team.
• Experience managing staff to perform more efficiently and accurately, including creating and training new staff to accommodate organizational transformation as a result of system implementations and company growth.
• Experience leading large system implementations and upgrades including current and future state documentation, gap-fit analysis, business case development, solution strategy recommendations, vendor selection, project management, training, communication and change management.
• Proven ability to collaborate with other departments, building relationships and gaining commitment and resources for finance-led initiatives.
• Highly organized with the ability to lead a large organization through change while maintaining day-to day operations.
• Proven problem-solving abilities and the ability to work effectively and accurately under pressure.
• Exceptional interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple requests, assess priorities and consistently achieve deadlines.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills (i.e. Excel – v/h lookup, sumif, pivot tables) and ERP applications.

What we prefer:

• Big 4 public accounting experience.
• Background in the restaurant industry or multi-unit retail (strongly preferred)
