The Department of Transportation is currently recruiting for TWO Transportation Technician Senior – Limited Term Employment positions.

Both temporary positions will be headquartered in Eau Claire, WI. Both positions can be either Full Time or Part Time. The rate for both Limited Term Employment position is $18.36/hr.

Position Summary (both positions listed below)

Signing and Marking Technician – The individual in this position performs duties related to the application of Pavement Marking and to the optimization and maintenance of the Marking and Signing Vueworks database. Primary duty of this job is to conduct field reviews, measurements and quality assurance. As a secondary duty this position works with the department database for tracking regional market data including locational data and specialist marking data. Position may also perform special assignments given by the Traffic Supervisor, Marking Engineer, or Unit Coordinators.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Frequent travel within region including independent travel to regional offices, construction projects and design projects. Some travel may be within construction work zones.
• Ability to read and interpret WisDOT Traffic Guidelines Manual, Pavement Marking Operations Manual and Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
• Knowledge and skill to read and interpret blueprints, plans, specifications, and other engineering documents.
• Working knowledge of software use to document; report creation; and skill to produce concise, accurate records from Department’s proprietary Inventory Management Systems for Signing and for Pavement Marking.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with personnel from other offices and regions as required.
• Working knowledge of computers and systems such as Windows XP, Microsoft Office and typical Access based programs.
• Skill in mathematics and understanding of engineering measurements.
• Working knowledge of traffic/highway engineering data collection methods.
• Working knowledge of highway laws, codes, standards and specifications pertaining to highway engineering.
• Ability to gather data through field work: Walking out in traffic – measuring with the wheel; Re-“T”ing zones; retro readings on centerline; Driving/walking on the shoulder of the road; able to operate the DMI (electronic measurement equipment) while driving in traffic; able to sit in a car for long periods of time; able to twist to the side (passengers side) to work on the laptop (database & photo log) while seated in vehicle.
• Fieldwork can include working in all seasons, including adverse weather conditions and working in high volume traffic conditions or on uneven ground.
• Must be able to lift 25 lbs.

Driveway Permit Technician – Under the close to limited direction of the Regional Access Coordinator, this position is responsible for accurately placing driveway permits and associated documents in the HAMS Highway Access Management System database, and researching existing data for new access requests.

Knowledges and Skills Required:

• Computer/keyboard proficiency
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat
• Organizational skills
• Strong Customer Service Skills

Additional Requirements:

• Ability to drive independently
• Occasional Travel
• Able to work for extended periods at computer work station
• Able to work remotely (telework) with home internet connection
• Fieldwork is required. This fieldwork can include working in all seasons, including adverse weather conditions and working in high volume traffic conditions. Bending on a limited basis. Lifting approximately 25 lbs. and carrying this load approximately 50 feet over varying terrain.
