Description: Wright-Hennepin Cooperative Electric Association is a member-owned, not-for-profit electric utility that provides power to rural Wright County and western Hennepin County. The cooperative has been a corporate citizen to the area since 1937 and currently serves more than 50,000 electric accounts.

The Senior Work Order Accountant is responsible for accurately accounting and reporting for the total costs of the electric utility plant constructed and the related records required by the mortgage lenders. This requires accounting for the overall activity of the work order process, asset management and assuring integrity and timeliness of the work order process to the completion of required loan documents. This position is also responsible for processing customer requests for service and maintenance, and assisting in scheduling crews, contractors, and technicians to perform the required tasks.

The Senior Work Order Accountant is open due to the upcoming retirement of a long-tenured WH employee. It reports to the Engineering Director and is part of the Engineering team while having close interaction with operations and accounting.

This is a union position in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Pay is $34.60/hour per the union contract.

40% Work Order Processing

• Process service orders per guidelines set forth by management.
• Set up service orders online for operations and maintenance needs at the request of customers or field inspections.
• Apply instructions to Staking Sheets that describe work to be done and properly route work orders utilizing mobile work management tools to the labor groups that will perform the required tasks outlined in the service order.
• Obtain pertinent information from new service applications such as location of building site, mailing address, and type of structure. Inform applicants of associated new service fees and requirements. Forward “leads” on WH product offerings to Customer Service area to promote Cooperative programs and products.
• Set up pending new accounts after determining new service locations, billing cycle, board district and other billing information. Maintain all new service files and obtain necessary state electrical inspector requirements.
• Collect information and issue necessary work orders to Field Engineers regarding staking new service and general field inspections.
• Prepare agreements regarding related service charges to member or builder and enter charges in billing system.
• Handle day to day tasks as Gopher State One Call notifications for scheduled work, permits for city, state and county as needed; along with correspondence with members, contractors, and outside agencies.
• Screen completed service orders to determine whether special charges must be applied. Audit underground locating contractor invoices and enter data for tracking purposes.

40% Accounting

• Oversee and review work orders to assure accuracy of information.
• Maintain accurate listing of status on all construction work in progress.
• Analyze work orders to determine jobs completed and ready for close out in the current month.
• Balance plant subsidiaries and work in progress subsidiaries to the general ledger accounts.
• Prepare and update audit work paper detail related to inventories, work in progress and distribution plant.
• Maintain loan application data sheet with completed work order costs.
• Assure personal property tax summaries within incorporated areas are completed with accurate costs of utility plant constructed and submit to the State of Minnesota.
• Prepare reports that summarize construction cost data for developments.
• Assist with physical inventory.
• Assist with development of budgets, provide annual costs and project comparisons.

20% Member and Customer Support

• Assist members and contractors with construction scheduling requests and inquiries in a professional manner.
• Coordinate with member, builder, developer, and contractor schedules to allow Wright-Hennepin to perform work needed in a timely fashion. Build rapport through regular contracts; strive to obtain scheduling commitments by explaining scheduling procedures and benefits.
• Ensure that work orders and customer requests are being processed in a timely manner.

Requirements:

• 8+ years of experience in work order process with a utility (electric, city, gas, or water)
• 2-year accounting or equivalent degree OR 2 years of accounting experience strongly preferred
• Strong knowledge of finance and accounting principles
• Strong MS Excel skills
• Highly detail-oriented
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to work without close supervision
• Electric utility experience in the areas of substations, line design and staking, RUS work order process preferred
• GIS knowledge preferred
